I voted for "mid" just because I actually have the most fascination with that part of the decade (say about 1983-86, although 80-82 I think similarly of too).
Oddly enough, even though by the time we get up to about 1987 is when I start to have a really good memory of things (I was born in late '81), I actually think I find that part of the decade the least interesting out of all of it. Not sure why, but maybe it's cause in, say 1982 we still had most of the decade left to look forward to, and everything was "new" - kinda like the way we look forward to the weekend the most on Friday evening. :)
Musically, I like everything from soft ballads to heavy metal to R&B, but if I picked a favorite genre, probably "arena rock" - like in the middle of pop/rock and hard rock - bands like Eddie Money, Loverboy, Foreigner, Huey Lewis, Journey, etc.

None of the above take to my fancy. I'm totally addicted to "Latin Freestyle" with acts like Expose, George Lamond, The Cover Girls, Safire, Stevie B, Timmy T, Sweet Sensation, Pretty Poison, Johnny O & Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam to name but a few.

I still am a Kraftwerk fan, especially 70s Kraftwerk.

My musical timeline in the 80's was kinda odd...
I started out listening to all the top 40: Blondie, Laura Branigan, Bonnie Tyler, Toto, Culture Club, etc... by the time of Madonna's Like A Virgin, I was already starting to lose interest in top 40. I still listened to it for a while after, just because it was there. I remember listening to The Jets, The Bangles, etc...
Then I got on the Duran Duran wagon...which led to A-ha, and then to groups like U2, Thompson Twins, OMD, Spandau Ballet, etc. I pretty much abandoned Top 40 for awhile, so I missed the whole Debbie Gibson/Tiffany phase...
My freshman year of high school (1988) I briefly revisited Top 40. Lisa Lisa, The Cover Girls, Nocera, Janet Jackson, etc.. but I still continued listening to modern rock also. When Top 40 phased into stuff like "DJ Spin That Wheel", "Pump Up The Volume" and "Push It" I abandoned it again, this time for good.
From there, (while still keeping up on modern rock) I found Metallica, which led me to The Scorpions, Tesla, etc. which I enjoyed all the way into the early 90's....
Then came grunge and I was displaced again... >:(
I've been musically "homeless" ever since.

I loved the Jets especially with their hits "Crush On You (later covered by Nick Carter's brother Aaron in 1997) and their fantastic single "Rocket 2 U".

Yeah The Jets weren't bad... I liked "Make It Real".. I didn't think the mid-80's Top 40 was bad, I just didn't find it AS good as the earlier stuff.. but the ones like "Pump Up The Volume" and "Push It" WERE bad... gave me a headache.

There Might Be Giants were very early 90's. There first single was the fantastic "Birdhouse In Your Soul" and that was released in 1990.

Birdhouse In Your Soul wasn't the first single... I'm not sure what was their first, but I am sure that "Ana Ng" and "Don't Let's Start" were a few years before the "Flood" album...

There Might Be Giants were formed in Boston, MA in 1983.

They Might Be Giants is a classic example of a group whose lyrics made no sense...
im your only friend im not your only friend but im a little glowing friend but really im not actually your friend but i am..
HUH???
But I still liked them cause they had good beats and it was fun to sing along to their songs...

Maybe it wasn't their first single in the US, but it was in the UK. "The Boss Of Me" was a great song from 2001. It's also the theme tune to the TV series "Malcom In The Middle".
