I say Punk/Synth mix. Captures the early eighties.

new wave spawned out of punk after the punk explosion died down in '79. punk inspired many new young artists that they didn't have to follow the establishment that was laid down by the supergroups of the time. so new wave to me isn't just simply a band with keyboards and a weird hairdo but a movement of fresh new music that was never heard before.

i'd say syth pop, but I don't think it's so easy to categorize so i chose 'other'
New Wave to me is the condition in 80's music where things are taking into and out of place like acoustic guitars over synth. Or perhaps the style of singing and music is upbeat but the meanings are layed out as cold and depressing.
That's my definition, but kinda vague. Which I think relates to how new wave is considered.

Punk-synth. Dream Pop is more 90s Alternative.
