The Killers
Nine Inch Nails (I'm not kidding)
No Doubt
Posse of One ;D

Nickelback is totally a throwback to the 80's. They may act like they're trying to sound grungy, but their slower songs remind me of those cheesy "power ballads" that so many 80's hair bands were required to play.

Just as a side note, the new LP from Nine Inch Nails hits stores March 22. I have been waiting for this since the Fragile came out in '99 (?). A lot of people didn't like the Fragile, but I played that think until there was nothing but scratches and craters on those disks.
For those of you in the DFW area, there will be a listening party at the Gypsy Tea Room in Deep Ellum on the 23rd. Free admission.

No more than Nirvana were. A debut in 1989 hardly counts in my book.
Although Trent Reznor had a background in Synth-pop.

There are two lesser known groups that I can think of who deserve it.
The Faint and Deadsy are totally wicked late 90's-00's bands that have a pulsing take on 80s music. Check 'em out.

synths are alive and well in industrial dance music. bands like the cruxshadows, apoptygma berzerk and vnv nation are heavily influenced by 80s synth new wave. i could see them being 80s bands easily.
