Subject: Favorite New Wave Acts

I, as you all know, like a lot of New Wave, but there is a lot of crap there too. Bands I like:
1. Devo
a-ha's "Take on Me" is better than anything I've heard from Devo but I would buy any Devo album, whereas with a-ha I wouldn't buy anything past "Scoundel Days". Move aside Duran Duran, these guys are the REAL kings of New Wave.
2. a-ha
These guys have so much talent, it's too bad they moved away from their synth-pop roots. "Take on Me" is one of the best songs of all time and most of the songs on "Hunting High and Low" are at least half as good. Their later stuff sounds weak though. Jazz? Wtf?
3. Depeche Mode
Pure New Romanticism at its best. Strangely their later stuff is their best work, although their old stuff is good too. None of their songs are my very favorite songs, but then again I haven't heard much by them. Enjoy The Silence is genius.
I also like Talk Talk, Simple Minds, A Flock of Seagulls, the Go-Go's, and a slough of singles from other bands.

You're Welcome :)
Does anyone here think Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" switched between happy and serious too much? Good song, just an observation. 8)

I think the same thing too, my observation "Every Breath You Take" seems like a "creepy, psycho, stalker anthem" but it could be just me !!!!! ::) ;D

Yeah I've noticed that too. It's funny, everyone here blabs about how "innocent" eighties music is, but SO MANY love songs from the 80s have stalker/rapist undertones. And George Michael and Michael Jackson acted on it. hmmmm......
The Eighties sounds fun and serious at the same time, almost negligent. The 90s just took itself too seriously, and today is controversial but isn't serious enough. ???
