The 80'swas the best thing ever to happen in the world! I had the best times of my life
during 1983 and 1988, I live in Miami, I experienced the whole magic of Miami Vice right here
in Miami, and I mean, Miami Vice was PURE MAGIC!!!!! those were the days, my friend,
I also loved the 70's, specially the rock years, you know, 1971, 72, etc., great groups
flourished at that time, Led Zep, Cream, Doobie's, Eagles, anyway, but the 80's decade was
my absolute fab!!!!! ;)

People have said this every year since 1999. While some of it is back, it's far far from full-fledged. To bring the 80s back mainstream rap, whatever's left of numetal, South Park, infact all the violent cable shows, have to go.

I just came back from a couple days in Reno and ALL the casinos I was in were playing 70's & 80's music through the speakers and on the stages. ::)

I don't think they're "coming back." Sure, some elements of the 80s may reappear, just like some elements of the 70s have. But the 80s was a special time that will forever be left in the past. We can relive our youth in many ways (collecting items from the era, listening to the era's music, etc), but it will never truly come back and hit us with that euphoric feeling ever again.
All we have are the memories. <getting a bit misty here> Damn, the 80s ruled...

^ I think you're right, for better or worse.
I guess it's like how, in the 80's there were elements of 50's culture resurfacing (i.e. Stray Cats, even Back to the Future!), and in the 90's some of the 60's/70's resurfaced, now the same thing is starting to happen with early 80's culture.
I've noticed alot of the guys in the pop/punk bands are really into 80's stuff, which I always thought was cool (and, with them being still at the forefront of mainstream pop/rock that's on the radio, etc. that does, in effect, give the 80's more acceptance than it might've had in 1994).
But I do agree, 1985 was the real 1985. I mean, it would be weird to call, say 2009 "1985 II". However, I do think it's possible we could have a more 80's-like time stretch, just with its own culture.

IMO the 80s can't manifest themselves in any true way until SOUTH PARK goes off the air! As funny as it is, hasn't it been on long enough?

^ Yep. It's funny/entertaining here and there, but by 1999 it had already been around long enough, let alone now.
Can you imagine someone from 1984 coming to this year and seeing that on TV? I bet they'd be shocked - even if they liked it.

Even a 1994 person may be shocked! I have mixed feelings about the show. On one hand it's one of the funniest shows ever, but on the other hand I find its content disturbing, and that takes a lot when it comes to me! Let's put it this way: Dawn of the Dead didn't disturb me. South Park does. I think it's lame they're doing a new season now. They should of cancelled it around 2002, it really is dated now. Or should be.

I love the eighties, its when I grew up and I had the best times. I love the music back then, New Wave, Punk, Heavy Metal, Glamour Rock, Rocka billy, Ska, Mod, Rap, Hip Hop and sooooooo much more, it was awesome and also the tv series. I just bought Miami Vice season one and I'm lovin it my bray, wish I could go back too. At least there wasn't any wars going on, except for the possibility of a nuclear strike from mother Russia, ole USSR...times were good...
