Subject: 80s Artists You Wish They'd Play Again On The Radio?
Written By: 80smuzikhead on 02/09/05 at 12:54 pm
I listen to the radio at work and just about the only station I can stand is "Classic Hits". They play a fairly good selection of 70s and 80s stuff, but I wish they'd play some Culture Club more often than once in a blue moon, plus I would dearly love to hear some Uncanny X-men!
Who listens to the radio and who, from the 80s, would you like to hear more of?
Cheers,
Dee :D

A lot of new wave, popular hits and obscure tracks, are played on alternative stations' 'Resurrection' hours. 8) :D
Though I'd like to hear more old school hip hop (LL Cool J, Run DMC, Public Enemy, etc.) on the classic R&B station. :)

I love listening to 'Totally 80s' on local radio (sometimes Pat Sharpe hosts it - What a man! He kept a mullet longer than anyone ever dared to ;D).
Some stuff I wish they would play more of . . .
Hue and Cry
Rick Astley
Living in a box
Holly Johnson (after the 'Frankie goes to Hollywood' days)
I was quite impressed one day, they played 'One night in Bangkok' by Murray Head and 'Living on Video' By Trans-X on the same radio slot.

I don't listen to the radio anymore, mainly because the stations here are pretty much stuck to classic rock, metal, rock, country, rock, blah-blah-blah... Even the radio stations that play 80's music. I did manage to get one radio station to play Depeche Mode ("People Are People" was all they had) during an all-request 80's weekend, but I wouldn't mind hearing more of them. And I can think of several other new wave/new romantic artists I wouldn't mind hearing again. (They did play A Flock Of Seagulls and Haircut One Hundred on this particular weekend.)
Oh, and I'm sure you can guess who I'd REALLY like to hear on the radio again!!!!!!! :D

Someone should be nagging radio stations more often to play Peter Schilling's one big hit! Speaking of one hits, I'm starting to think of Peter more as a innovator in new wave rather than just a "one hit wonder"! Even his German stuff is bloody damn good! ;D

That list of names reminds me of the heavy metal show I used to listen to on Saturday nights. Every other song had Satan in the title -perfect for a rebellious teen like myself. It was on 92FM which was a community station in Hobart, Tasmania. The DJs were as deadpan as all hell, probably cos most of them were half stoned, but they played some awesome music that no one else would play. They also put some rather controversial radio plays to air. Sadly, the staion went out of existance in the early 90s, due to lack of funding. Ah, the memories!
