What was the worst thing(s) about the 1980s?

Mine would have to be, in no particular order:

1: A U.K Conservative Government (Thatcher)

2: Having to go to school

3: Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Power of Love) knocking Chaka Khan- Feel for You off No1 spot. I'll elaborate..............I was on a school trip with all my 'breaking crew' and we nestled down in the dinning area to watch Top of the Pops. It was a huge space and we cleared the tables and chairs so we could all break, pop n lock. We sat in eager anticipation for 25 minutes ready to break out the moves hoping to impress the school sweethearts on the trip and then............................And we have a New No1..........Frankie Goes to Bloody Hollywood with Power of Love - How gutted were we!

Although I didn't admit it at the time (I would've been crucified), I did actually like Power Of Love tune but alas I was so disappointed not to throw down. Even the teachers were geared up for a little breakin.........

Yuppies.

COMMUNISM! which of course, was still begetting the arms race.
At least by decade's end we'd won the cold war, and I don't think anyone was upset about that.
Well, maybe Tom Clancy. But then, my favorite writer found plenty of other bad guys!

Easily the fact that they'r over. It can't be a coincedence that I like so many things from the 80s, but very little nowadays. Somebodys got to invent a time machine soon!

Ah, yes. The K-Cars. Actually, pretty much every domestic car built between 1980 and about 1986 or '87 was an absolute turd. The 1980's were by far the lowest point ever in American automotive design.

I would guess the crime rate.people should've had more cell phone usage as well.I guess everyone was making phone calls in booths at the time. ???

80s had awful crime rates.  Even cars up to the early 90s were boxy and crappy-looking.  The worst thing was Reagan.  Hair Metal is the worst culture part.

AIDS and nuclear war threats, The Day After is probally one of the most scariest made for TV movies, made in awhile.

That's still not as bad (in my opinion) as Ultravox' "Vienna" being kept at #2 by Joe Dolce's "Shaddap Your Face!!" Having been kept from #1 by John Lennon is, of course, forgivable...but a stupid novelty song?! Blasphemy!!!!! >:(

And I definitely agree with those who said that the worst thing about the 80's is that they ended!! I think I cried when it was all over on New Year's Eve 1989...
