Subject: Something About '80's teen queen Tiffany...
Written By: woops on 01/05/05 at 6:34 pm
I read somewhere that she was originally supposed to be a country singer, but her manager (or somebody) wanted her to be a pop singer instead...
So, Tiffany would've been the '80's answer to LeAnne Rhymes instead of the '80's Leslie Gore... ::)
Even if she had become a country singer, she wouldn't be good either. (Though I dispise the whole genre)

Yup, she started in country joints and all before changing her mind. Imagine "I Think We're Alone Now in This Here Barn".

had she stuck to country, she probably would have been still around making music.

Alright, I confess, I had her debut album :o
There was a song called "Should've Been Me" that did sound kinda country.
My greatest memory of her would have to be some girls at school singing:
"The flowers you gave me are just about to wilt!
I put them in the champaigne bottle, just before it spilt!"
;D

Yes, I bought her two albums. I'll admit it! I liked "All this time" from the second album the most.

IMO, Tiffany's voice was too thin & annoying. :P
Though "I Think We're Alone Now" is a decent cover. :) (Better than the entire Mandy Moore "Coverage" album) :P :D

Hey, I didn't know that was a cover version. Who sang the original, and when?

"I Think We're Alone Now" was originally done by Tommy James & The Shondells in 1967.

Britney Spears was the last to get compared to her when she just got started back in 1998.

Slightly off topic, but did the media compared Debbie & Tiffany to '60's teen singer Leslie Gore when they emerged to the pop scene?

Tiffany started doing country shows, but in interviews she said she was influenced by Pat Benatar or Stevie Nicks. Who knows what the real story is. For the record, Tiffany's voice blows Debbie Gibson's out of the water. If you listen to their first albums, it is clear who has the best singing ability. I love both, don't get me wrong, but Tiffany has a much stronger voice. "I Think We're Alone Now" doesn't showcase her vocal range. Granted, Gibson takes her in the songwriting arena, but vocal wise, Tiffany is by far better. I've seen Tiffany live.........wow, this girl can sing. Tiffany's last album, 2000's "The Color of Silence" is a good example and also introduces Tiffany as a real songwriter. They're not cheesy songs either, she talks about her life and its ups and downs. A lot of it I think she refers to her rise and fall from fame and other personal trials. You'd be surprised that these lyrics are from the same girl who bounced around with acid wash.
