Subject: 80's clothes: replies needed!
Written By: bendergoonie1988 on 12/30/04 at 11:38 am
ok, so i'm here to admit that i didn't TECHNICALLY grow up in the 80's (traitor! i know...) but i was really really close to being born there, and i've been obsessed w/the decade for as long as i can remember. anyways, i was just wondering if you had any ideas on how to bring the 80s back to school? i dress in a lot of the clothes, but they're mainly the stereotypical ones. can anyone tell me some simple steps to bring 80s stuff into my wardrobe or sayings or just anything! my friends and i are obsessed with the idea of bringing it back! thanks so much! (posts only please)

Well here are some ideas...
Jelly Slippers
Slapwrist bracelets
Caps that were cylinder type with tails on the back
Vans
Converse, the real kind and in loud colors
Bleached jeans
Denim jackets, patches and buttons complete this attire
High top sneakers
Sleeveless shirts, preferably in Panama Jack or OP (Ocean Pacific)
Short shorts in solid basic colors with a double white stripe on the side
Tube socks with thick stripes at the top
Wide shoelaces, those are coming back by the way !! Saw them in Foot Locker
Fur jackets, not coats, but short jackets
Red high heels with little white socks and ruffles
TIGHT Guess brand jeans.
and much more.
If you complete the look, be sure to post pics!!

Don't buy that "vintage" mess because it isn't. It's just processed new clothes that are overpriced.

Some of the clothes I remember from the 80's (by they way, you're slighly crazy to want to bring the looks back, but power to you!)
Acid wash jeans
Tight leggings (ususally black) with long shirts with tails - topped off with a wide belt at the waist, over the shirt
Tops with huge buttons at the front
There were these button shaped plastic circlular accessories that were used to twist the bottom of your oversized t-shirt through and cinch at the waist
'Chip and Pepper' tie die tops were huge
'Parachute' pants
'Pace Setter' pants
Slouch socks
Neon, neon and more neon
Netting material made great shirts
Vests over long shirts
Many different kinds of hats (see John Hughes Films)
Plaid pants
Chunky Jewelery
There were Ikeda blue jeans that had a lock at the waist instead of a button!
That all brings back alot of memories!

I think some of the clothes from the 80's were actually quite good. The following is a smattering of what was on offer, day-to-day.
Lacoste stuff - Polo shirts, vests, cardigans, wind breakers etc etc.
Frankie Say T-shirts - "Frankie Say Arm the Unemployed", "Frankie Say Relax Don't Do It", "Frankie Say War Hide Yourself", "Frankie Say We F----d the Hippie" apparently back in the heyday there were twenty odd Frankie Slogan T-shirts, Slogan shirts in general were very popular (a slogan shirt is basically a white T-shirt with large black bold letters i.e. Wham with Choose Life).
Cloth caps like they wear in Yorkshire either all black, or with black and white chequered pattern.
Bunderswehr t-shirts - Basically West German (when there was a west germany) army t-shirts and singlets, another poster on this site reminded me of these.
Doc Martens if you are a boy, Pro Keds (like the ones Baby wore in Dirty Dancing) if you are a girl.
I could go on and on, but I won't.

Docksider shoes with no socks, I think the same people owned a pair of Vans as well, suspenders I think the Mork and Mindy show made this popular, guys getting the left ear pierced, in the day having it in the right ear was gay :o I know it's not clothing but what about the "mini mullet", it was like a mullet but it was long hair in the back to form a ponytail and the surounding hair was all cut short some would even bleach it blond
