Subject: Best Nostalgic Films of the 80's

I like most of the films on this list, but I would go with Dirty Dancing and Stand by Me. :)
I thought about putting The Big Chill on the list, too - I'm not sure if that counts or not since it took place in the present time, but the soundtrack has some cool songs from the 60's and 70's.

I agree. I did enjoy the others, but I voted on just the idea of what movie really had that sense of longing to go back to that time.

I should have put "La Bamba" on this list too - great film about the life of Richie Valens.

I voted for Hairspray (last movie of Divine's! Great performance, classic John Waters)

DD and Stand By Me too. Both are still today the most watchable films for me.

I find it hard to fathom that the child actor from A Christmas Story who got his tongue frozen to the pole (Scott Schwartz) grew up to become a porn star. :o

I saw a Hollywood kids documentary and he wasn't really a "star" but he did do some producing and was in 1 or 2.

I chose "Diner" and "Stand By Me". The first movie reminds me of hanging out with friends during my college years. The second movie reminds me of the wonder of childhood. "The Big Chill" gets an honorable mention.

Of course, no list is complete without the original Back to the Future! That said, there were just so many others that weren't included on this list, and I'm only covering the '60s, one of the two most popular decades reminisced about during the 1980s:
1960s nostalgic:
1. American Blue Note (1989)
2. Best Enemies (1986)
3. Best Revenge (1983)
4. Born on the Fourth of July (1989, Best Picture winner)
5. The Big Chill (1983, helped to make the "oldies" stations that feature music from that era popular)
6. Five Corners (1988)
7. Flashback (1989)
8. Four Friends (1981)
9. High Hopes (1988)
10. The Hollywood Knights (1980)
11. The Lords of Discipline (1983)
12. Odd Birds (1985)
13. Off Limits (1987, another Vietnam-era flick)
14. Out (1988)
15. Second Thoughts (1983, not really "set" in the '60s but involves a hippie stuck in that era)

I don't like voting "Other" in polls like this, but I had to. There are several John Hughes movies, just for starters, that are better for 80's nostalgia than any of the movie listed here.
