Colin Farrell may soon end up sockless, stubbly, and sporting a rumpled white suit over a neon-colored T-shirt now that the '80s-era cop show "Miami Vice" is heading to the big screen. Variety reports the Irish actor is closing in on the role of Det. Sonny Crockett, with Jamie Foxx in talks to play his less sartorially splendid partner, Det. Ricardo Tubbs. Michael Mann is in negotiations to write, direct, and produce. No word on whether original "Vice" officers Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas will put in an appearance, although we're guessing both are available.

Wow is this confirmed yet though,

Hope it won't suck, I appreciate Farrell's acting in all of his movies, also for Foxx,

Just hope they won't ruin Miami Vice's 80s legacy,

Well after the previews for the new movie Ray, I think Jamie Foxx could do a good job.

I think Benicio Del Toro would be perfect to play Lt Castillo.  8)

November sees the release of the Miami Vice game.....I believe it is done by the same people who did the Knight Rider game.....Not necessarily a good thing but we'll see...

Not bad. I was thinking of Matthew McConaughey for Crockett(the Southern thing), Orlando Jones for Tubbs(I think he'd pass easier as a Jamaican), and maybe Antonio Banderas as Castillo. OTOH, I've had a heck of a time trying to think of a latino actress (Besides Jennifer Lopez) to play Gina, possibly Salma Hayek. Any thoughts? Let me know.

Yes, but know what? There won't be any pastels, won't be set in the 80's where it duly belongs, and he won't be wearing the nice stuff Crockett used to wear, so, THumbs down for Colin..... :-[

A Chips movie would intersting, as long as Erik Estrada gets to make a cameo.

A Miami Vice movie? Well, I think Michael Mann is a brilliant film maker, and Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are good actors, so I'm looking forward to it.

My vote is for Eva Longoria.

I read on my favorite 80's website that Don Johnson thinks he's too old to appear as Crockett again, but endorses Farrell for the part and might even want to direct the movie! That would definitely help with the 80's vibe! Any other thoughts?

Give him a a cameo, he and Don Johnson should make cameos in the film!

Miami Vice season one will be released on February 8, 2005..incase no one knew.

I'ld look forward to seeing it, just as long as they don't make a cheap blow 'em up, shoot 'em up action movie out of it.  Michael Mann is a good producer and Farrell and Fox would reprise their roles well.

Who would play Switeck?

Yeah, but check this out:  Farrell is real Irish,,,with a very distinctive accent....now, CROCKETT is portrayed as an "All American Boy", with his kinda southern RASPY
voice which makes him so alluring and unique, now, how in the world are we going to have
a Crockett talking in an IRISH accent??????
