Are you sure those words are right? Because the way the phrasing is, I'm thinking "Overkill" by Men At Work. The lyrics are below.
I can`t get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep and
Possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations
That I know will be alright
Perhaps it`s just imagination
(CHORUS)
Day after day, it reappears
Night after night
My heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It`s time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation
At least there`s pretty lights
And though there`s little variation
It nullifies the night from overkill
(CHORUS)
Come back another day
I can`t get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations
That I know will be alright
It`s just overkill
(CHORUS)
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away

no it was a girl singer someone such as tiffany, but i don't think it was her. it was a relationship song and she was talking about the guy giving her candy and then i definitely remember her saying something about receiving roses, but then she says roses fade away

Tiffany had a song called Could've Been
The flowers you gave me
are just about to die
when I think about
what could've been
it makes me want to cry
The sweet words you whispered
didn't mean a thing
I guess our song is over
as we begin to sing
Chorus:
Could've been so beautiful
could've been so right
could've been my lover
every day of my life
could've been so beautiful
could've been so right
I'll never hold what could've been
on a cold and lonely night
The memorys of our lovin'
still linger in the air
like the faded scent of your roses
they stay with me everywhere
Everytime I get my hopes up
they always seem to fall
still what could've been is better than
what could never be at all.. at all
Repeat chorus
How could I hold what could've been
on a cold and lonely night?

Could it be "Fading Like A Flower" by Roxette? The song came out in the early 90's.....
In a time where the sun descends alone
I ran a long long way from home
To find a heart that’s made of stone
I will try, I just need a little time
To get your face right out of my mind
To see the world through different eyes
Every time I see you oh I try to hide away
But when we meet it seems I can’t let go
Every time you leave the room I feel I’m fading like a flower
Tell me why
When I scream there’s no reply
When I reach out there’s nothing to find
When I sleep I break down and cry
Cry, yeah
Every time I see you oh I try to hide away
But when we meet it seems I can’t let go
Every time you leave the room I feel I’m fading like a flower
Fading like a rose
Fading like a rose
Beaten by the storm
Talking to myself
Getting washed by the rain
It’s such a cold cold town
Oh, it’s a such cold town
Every time I see you oh I try to hide away
But when we meet it seems I can’t let go
Every time you leave the room I feel I’m fading like a flower
