It's a great song and a good video, the first to air on MTV on August 1, 1981. 8)

'Fraid not, Howard. Lead singer Trevor Horn didn't much like the way he looked in the video, and figured he would "always be a third-rate rock star". So at the suggestion of his wife, he's been working for the past 25 years(+/-) as a successful record producer, gaining fame by working with artists like Rod Stewart, Yes, and Seal.
I guess you can file this under "Whatever Happened To... ?". Hope it helps!
Your Pal,
Doc

Thanks for the info Doc. By the way this song can be heard on one of the radio channels in the game G.T.A. VICE CITY (that's where I heard this song first).

I never like the song, which was actually released on "Radio" in 1979....I preferred the SECOND video ever played on MTV....You Better Run by Pat Benatar :)

The band "Belle and Sebastian" were guest VJs on "Rage" here in Oz a couple of weeks ago. Apparently Trevor Horn worked with them on a recent album, and they even played Video Killed The Radio Star at one of their concerts in tribute! They wanted an oversize pair of spectacles (as featured in the video) to complete the look, and his daughter said he's got hundreds like that! :D

Speaking of the first & second video to air on MTV: Here's the 10 First Videos to air on the network...and 36 of them are Rod Stewart (for the better of worse)
1. Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star"
2. Pat Benatar "You Better Run"
3. Rod Stewart "She Won't Dance With Me"
4. The Who "You Better You Bet"
5. PhD "Little Suzie's On The Run"
6. Cliff Richard "We Don't Talk Anymore"
7. Pretenders "Brass In Pocket"
8. Todd Rundgren "Time Heals'
9. REO Speedwagon "Take It On The Run"
10. Styx "Rockin' The Paradise"
And first video to air on MTV Europe (1987) was Dire Straits "Money For Nothing" :)

I know it's part of MTV history, but I can't stand Video Killed The Radio Star.
Joe Cortez on Retro Pop Reunion figures that it's the song that defined the 80s and decided that it should be played in every episode of Retro Pop Reunion and I suddenly got sick of it. RPR has been running on the local radio station 92 Moose since 1999. There are some songs you can only listen to so many times every Sunday for 6 years.
