Subject: 80's commercial catchphrases

Written By: bobcat1990 on 07/23/04 at 1:02 pm

Can someone out there provide me with the commercial info that had "hot and juicy" as a catchphrase? I believe it is Wendy's. Early 80's if memory serves me. I have a bet riding on this. Please help soon!!!! Thanks

Howard

Actually Howard, Freedent was the one that took the stick OUT of gum, to appeal to people with dental work. I recall a few other good ones, though.

McDonalds: "You Deserve A Break Today"
Wendy's(Voted by AOL as the commercial of the century!): "WHERE'S THE BEEF?"
Coca-Cola: "Catch The Wave" --Max Headroom
Pepsi: "The Choice Of A New Generation"
Ryder: "It's Ryder, Or It's Wrong"
AT&T "Reach Out America"
American Beef Council: "BEEF, It's What's For Dinner"
from the American Dairy council: "Give'em All A Little Pat O'Butter"
NBC: "Proud As A Peacock", "Let's All Be There"
Nike: "For Those Who Are Always On Their Game"
Cotton Council: "The Fabric Of Our Lives"

Any others?

Does this count?

Just for the taste of it - Diet Coke

You've got ring around the collar! - Wisk (sort of a carry-over from the 70's, I think they still had it in the 80's)

I think so, too.  But it's still more '70s, like "Shake & Bake, and I helped!"

Homework, homework, give me a break! - Summit candy bars
Whatever happened to Summit bars anyway?  I kinda liked those.  Wasn't there also,
"Gimme a break, gimme a break, break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar!"

"Eat a pita...or a plattah!" (platter) Burger King, 1983, for their shortlived salad bar.

"Zina Jeans for the American Way of Life"

"Hormel Chili, the next best thing to homemade!"

"I need a vacation like nobody's business!" (Can't remember what the jingle was for, but they played it so much it drove me nuts.)

"Be All that You Can Be! Find your future in the Army!"

Here's one I always thought was a bit sexist:
"Honey, I don't have a sandwich appetite, I got a Manwich appetite!"
(implication: So you make me a Manwich, woman.)
;D
BTW, Manwich was (or is) some kind of horrible Sloppy Joe mix.

"Your baby's comfort begins with Luvs."

"Do you know what happens when you open a box of Ritz crackers?  You got a party!"

"Double your pleasure with doublemint gum!"
(do the buxom blonde twins come with that, too?)

"I'm a Bud, Bud, Bud Man!"

"Have an ice cold Coors with a friend of yours!"

"Pretty sneaky, Sis!" (from a commercial for some game, I don't remember which, but I'm sure someone does.  The line is kind of famous.)

"I got it, I got it....I don't got it!"
(For "Missing Link" a Rubik's Cube knock off)

"HE-MAN, HE-MAN!
(For the "He-Man" line of action figures.  If you don't remember, you have to imagine a chorus of baritone voices chanting "HE-MAN, HE-MAN!" in staccato!)

"Deep, Dark, and Delicious!"
(For a brownie mix, Duncan Hines, I think.  Speaking of baritone voice, this one was a deeper bass voice with echo effect.  Little old lady sits on a bench next to little boy eating brownie, "How do those new Duncan Hines brownies taste?"  Little boy, lip-syncing booming voice, "Deep Dark and Delicious!"  Little old lady, startled: "Oh my gosh!"  End shot, you see same little old lady, with brownie saying, in booming voice, intoning "Deep, Dark, and Delicious!")

Anyway, don't ask how I remember this crap!
::)

McDonald's:

Double cheeseburger:
"Double double cheese cheese burger burger please!"

McD-LT:
The hot side stays hot, the cool side stays cool!"

Burger King:
"Aren't you hungry for Burger King now?"

"I'm not Herb."

For anyone lucky enough NOT to remember, Burger King had an ad campaign in which everybody "got" how great BK was, except this guy named "Herb."  As the ads continued, they had a special deal everyone could get, except Herb.  So you were supposed to go up to the counter and say, "I'm not Herb!"  "...And if your name happens to be Herb, say...(cut to some guy with 'Herb' embroideredon his work shirt)..."I'm not the Herb you're lookin' for!"

What made me think of both of these was just a few days ago, I saw the movie "The Cradle Will Rock" which was about a very young Orson Wells and a very young John Houseman who used to put on plays together back in the 30s(Wells the director and sometimes actor, Houseman the producer).
