it wasn't until the late eighties that i discovered billboard magazine. it had the hot 100 and man i did not even know of the minor hits that were trying to climb into the top 40. the radio station i listened to at the time only played the "big" hits. only late at nite did my radio pick up stations from like detroit and cleveland. billboard costs a little bit so as a teenager had to save my money weekly to pick up an issue. music ain't like it used to be and neither are the charts. they have like 20 charts now!!!!! who needs that many?!!!

I read comics in the 80s and was never really a big fan of magazines (though I loved reading computer mags for the Spectrum like Crash, Your Sinclair and Sinclair User - they always put free games on tape).
The comics I read were mainly of the Fleetway type (like Whoopee, Buster, Whizzer and Chips and Big Comic). I loved them but didn't know until recently that I read from the 'The best of' period of time (1987 - 1991) and were probably a collection of old strips that were probably done in the 70s.

My mother got me a subscription to World magazine... I also liked Mad and Cracked and ANYTHING that mentioned Star Wars or professional wrestling... in the late 80's I had a subscription to Rolling Stone and would have loved to have a subscription to Hustler... ::) by the 90's I was into Fangoria.

I watched my first wrestling P-P-V in 1989 I think (Wrestlemania 3) and took a great interest from 1990 onwards so no I didn't, Howard. I couldn't afford much back then Howard and was lucky if I got my comic once a month (I still have a small collection from 1988 - 1991 - Though they are looking very beaten up now, it is a modern miracle how they have survived so many house movings).

My favourite was "Song Hits"..I had a subscription from the late 70's into the early 80's..a fun magazine with lyrics to the latest songs and articles about featured artists.
Of course I also bought Tiger Beat,Teen Beat and Bop magazines around the same time ::)
In the mid-late 80's i read Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine.

In the early to mid eighties I read Smash Hits, New Music Express (NME) and Jackie (teen girls mag). I also occasionally read 2000 A.D., the Judge Dredd comic. I stopped when I started work.

My weekly dose of all things musical during the 80s was the now-defunct 'Record Mirror', basically because it was easier to digest than NME or MM...but its only downside was the unfair amount of space it gave to 'dance music'...
I even followed it right into the 90s, but suddenly the plug was pulled on it with no warning...I gave up on the weeklies thereafter...
...and started on the monthly 'Record Collector' - not a 'current' magazine (it deals mostly with past acts and, er...Record Collecting...) - it's a great read when there's something interesting, but the subjects do lapse from time to time...

Goofus and Gallant was my fave section of the magazine because I would read it and imagine that hopefully I would never date a guy like Goofus :). But of course as the saying goes, you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince, and I finally have.

My overall favorite magazine was Metal Edge, definitely.
In the early 80's though, I liked Bop, and Tiger Beat all those.
