Subject: G.L.O.W.
Written By: AL-B on 07/05/04 at 12:59 pm
Does anyone remember G.L.O.W. (Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling) from the 80's? I believe they taped it in some casino in Las Vegas. They had some pretty hot ladies on there (I always liked the blonde Russian chick who smoked cigars, and the farmer's daughter was a total knockout!) I also remember that it was very un-P.C. There was an evil terrorist wrestler named Palestina, and an escaped mental patient who they brought into the ring in a straitjacket, and I think her name was Dementia. She'd even have a small hatchet and would take swings at and just barely miss her opponents...I remember that they did a lot of stunts involving axes and knives and fire, and a lot of that stuff looked like it was pretty freakin' dangerous. I also remember that the ring announcer was kind of a short, weasely-looking guy, and half the time the evil wrestlers would beat him up. As Johnny Carson used to say, it was "weird, wild stuff..."

I don't know if this is the same organisation but I remember The Glamour Girls (Judy Martin and Leilani Kai) and Reggie Bennet (she came to the ring looking like a construction worker I think).

I remember watching G.L.O.W. on a local independent music video station called TV 69 during the spring of 1987 while I was sick with mono. I was really into pro-wrestling at the time and women's pro-wrestling was even more entertaining watch! I don't really remember anything about the wrestlers... or are they called wrestlerettes? ::)

Unfortunately I do remember G.L.O.W. I used to work with this guy and I remember being over at his house one time and he was watching it with his 5 year old son. They both had the same stupid grin on their faces.

I never got to see G.L.O.W. live but I sure did get to see a lot of adds for it in old wrestling magazines. It looked to me like a cheap way for a promoter to make money using sexy women as his way to the top.

I remember G.L.O.W. in that the founder of that faux wrestling league, David B. McLaine, was a former Hoosier who did the local show after Sam Mennaker retired. The wrestlers I am familiar with are Tina Ferrari (now WWE's Ivory), Americana, Tammy Jones, Mt. Fuji, Queen Kong/Matilda the Hun, Olympia, and Jeannie Beret the Attache. It even looked fake; not one wrestler even tried to act. :-X

I remember GLOW!
My favorites were Hollywood and Vine and the Cheerleaders. Anyone remember when one of the cheerleaders (I believe it was the one in red) who jacked up her elbow?

Yes, I remember that. They kept showing flashbacks of the girl's injury for several weeks afterward. It reminded me of Joe Theismann's broken leg.

I remember watching G.L.O.W. back in the day when I was 8. I remember before or after they finishing fighting, they used to rap on who they beat up or who they were about to beat up. I think that was the first female wrestling show.
