I prefer Slash's playing over Eddie's and Mr. Scary's because it's more emotive, but Eddie is definitely the best player.

I'm a huge fan of Eddie's, but I'll write in Eric Johnson.

Actually Joe's debut came out in 1986 (Not Of This Earth) but he really burst onto the scene with 1987's "Surfing With The Alien"  ;)

I picked Edward Van Halen. But to be honest there are so many from the eighties that were and still are great. Randy Rhodes comes to mind. Warren DeMartini, Robbin Crosby, Slash, Steve Clarke, The Boys from Tesla are just freaking amazing. Frank Hannon, Tommy Skoech.

I voted for Lynch.  Eddie is great,  but when I saw him in concert with Van Hagar, anbout 10 yrs ago, all his right hand finger stuff got really boring.

One of my personal favs from the 80's was Jake E Lee. 

BTW, I think Slash is really overrated.

The 80s were like a kid in a candy store for rock guitarists like me and it would be next to impossible to name which one was best. I do have two all time personal favorites as well as influences though. Randy Rhoads and Steve Stevens.
