Subject: Song ID Help

I need help with the title and band for this song that's probably from the latter half of the 80's but not sure. The chorus goes something like this: Me and my girl, we hang around (or together) in bars" and the end of the chorus has "cats and dogs...something". It's a mid tempo song. Anyone has a clue?

I remember that cats and dogs line...its sort of spoken, not sung, right?

The song is My Girl, I don't remember who wrote it, but it was used as main theme in a british soap about a father and his pre-teen daughter.
