My choice: ... besides "Both"... Madonna  Not for her "longevity", it because I like more songs from her. Mostly from the '80's.  :)

Although I loved Cyndy Lauper (Time after Time was my favorite), Madonna definitely dominated the 80's.

I like Cyndi Lauper. Talent wise, she has a much better voice than Madonna.  I think Madonna only dominated the 80's and 90's because she was always controversial.

It's amazing to me the number of people who absolutley despise Madonna.  You can talk about other artists of the 80s/90s/00s and not receive the same seething response you get when you talk about Madonna.  I've often wondered why.  I mean, obviously, for the people that adore her, it's not about sex alone.  It's about making music and pushing boundaries.  I mean, if it were just about sex, Jenna Jameson would be worth as much as Madonna.  She's made some great music; I mean when you have Mariah, Whitney, and Madonna up there with the most number one songs, you've gotta be doing something right. :D

Are some of you people nuts!!!!??? Madonna had some great songs. Cyndi Lauper had a good voice? Please listen to True Colors. She sounds like a little girl on All Through The Night!!!! Lauper had a great debut album and charted 4 top ten hits but after that had some songs that were all right. Madonna had the True Blue album that was as clean as can be compared to her erotic stuff. She is talented and way better than Cyndi. She had a few hits from soundtracks too. Not a goonie hit either.

I would've been much happier if that bird would've pooped in Madonna's mouth instead of in Cyndi Lauper's mouth. :)

I was a huge Madonna fan in the 80's and i still love her music(prefer the older stuff)but i also enjoy Cyndi Lauper

I liked both. But, I like Madonna more. She had more songs.

People always vote the underdog. I voted neither... yes I loved Madonna in the 80's and up until Erotica. After that her music became a bit bland for my taste... a bit too experimental. I bet if Madonna disappeared after the 80's she'd be winning the poll hands down.

I voted both. I preferred Cyndi in the 80s. Madonna's best work, IMO, came from 1989 onwards and her voice has come a long way.

^In contrast, I like Madonna's stuff thru 1989.  Like a Prayer was her best work, IMO.      

I do think Cyndi Lauper's music is good, but I just prefer Madonna.  Both of them have crazy personalities.     

 

Unfair.  When you have only 2 and you ask "favorite", you have to pick - you can't say "both".

So I have to choose Madonna.  Because she did quite a bit more (and I liked it, mostly).

But just about every actual hit of Lauper's I liked.  %-wise I'd probably choose her.

I only really liked a few of Madonna's songs, but I liked a whole handful of Cyndi's songs :)

Cyndi use to sing outside her window in Queens ans she still had a beautiful voice.  MAdonna is great her voice changed through the years.  I think both will always be Icons.

To put it simply, I think that both artists are great.

I make no attempt to demonstrate my choice via critique, I just chose Cyndi because she was a heck of a lot more fun!

SUre, she started out kind of rough but her voice has done nothing but improve!

Madonna. Anyone who says Madonna is fake is wrong-she is just constantly exploring different sides of herself. I discovered myself through Madonna when I was younger, and I think she's made some of the best mainstream pop music of all time. She's a genius who has, for better or for worse, revolutionized the music industry and the position of women in it, and there's never been anyone else like her and never will be. I admit she's about as far past her '80s-early '90s heyday as she can get, I'd like to see her as sassy and witty and provocative and having learned nothing from life, no children, but that's time. That happened to Tori Amos too, my other late 20th century music icon, as the 20th turned to the 21st century. She has the rock star quotient at about 200%, she's one of the best entertainers of all time, and one of pop culture's most fascinating and ingenious figures. If only she would go back to her roots. I beg you, Madge, return to Madonna Louise Ciccone of Rochester Hills, Michigan and not Madonna Ciccone Ritchie or whatever her name is of England with her stupid Kabbalah-she's gone too far from her roots to be truly significant anymore.
