I guess it's because a New Zealand accent sounds so familiar to an Australian one. The first time I heard Neil Finn sing, I thought he was Australian myself.

I went to a happy hour in the Aukland Hyatt, and I swear everything seemed to be backwards there!
Maybe because we were under the equator? The people in the lounge kept saying, "it's one for two," (instead of 2 for 1). Sounded to me like you paid for 2 beers and got only one, and the folks there thought that was a great deal! Drove me batty, especially after 4 or 5 Red Elephants :D

The main reason is because after they released the Disrythmia album they moved to Australia and were based there for the rest of their career. They did return to NZ a lot to tour but they all lived in Australia. Most of them still live here. I was an enormous Split Enz fan in the early 80s.

As for my favourite song by them, I have to say "History Never Repeats" is mine.

Ha! I have that too! I also have the laser-etched version of Styx' Paradise Theater which was the only other album ever to get the treatment. Rock on.

Thanks eightiesfan, that's given me my best laugh for the day !  To an Aussie (or a Kiwi) that's akin to saying a Canadian accent is like an American accent !    :o  And I know how THAT stirs the passions  ;D

"I Got You" was the one I voted for. I remember the video from the very early days of MTV.  I had never heard of Split Enz before then and thought they were so cool!  8)

I dont think I could name a favourite. From the very first time I saw them perform My Mistake on Countdown in the 70s I was an addict.  I think the Finn lads are the most talented pair of songwriter/singers the southern hemisphere has produced.

And yes - like Russell Crowe - Australia adopts many kiwis who chose to move here to further their careers.

I went to the final Split Enz gig - Enz With A Bang - sniff - so sad - but being the boys there are - they never actually went away thank goodness.

Hmmm still cant pick a fave.  Too hard.

The only Split Enz song I know is "I Got You", so I picked that one.

I chose "Message to My Girl" Great song! But, I really like the others just as well.

I always liked I see red best!!
