Subject: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark poll (80's only)
Written By: Absolutely Vile on 05/08/04 at 5:49 pm
I love a lot of their songs, and my favourite song fluctuates from time to time. My favourite right now is "Messages" followed by "Souvenir."

My favorite used to be "Secret" but then years later I heard "Forever Live And Die" again and had forgotten how much I liked that song! :)

ENOLA GAY
ALL THE WAY!!
Of course, I love ALL OMD from the earliest to through the CRUSH album. After that, their output got pretty spotty. IF YOU LEAVE is one of their best, though.

I tend to lean heavily toward the earlier stuff, although this choice of mine is actually from 1984...
'Talking Loud And Clear'
'Joan Of Arc' in runner-up spot...

Ah, but is that "Joan of Arc," or "Joan of Arc (Maid of Orleans)"? Hand in hand, they complement eachother on Architecture & Morality. They're both terrific.

That would be 'Joan Of Arc', the first (I think) title of that name on the LP running order...rather confusingly (at the time), the next single lifted off the LP was 'Maid Of Orleans (The Waltz Joan Of Arc)' (titled in this way - probably to save confusion...)

I like "If You Leave", but normally I think OMD are overrated.

I didn't know they had any non-80s stuff. The songs of theirs I know best are:
If You Leave
So In Love
Secret
Dreaming
Can't decide which one I like best.

That is one DIFFICULT poll! Enola by a whisker...followed in no particular order by Messages, Forever Live And Die and Souvenir.

If you Leave - because it came out right before I left for college and all my friends would play it on their car stereos for me when we cruised up and down the El Camino. I played it a lot on my drive to school, crying. Great song though and good memories. 8)

So in Love followed closely by Secret. And, IMO, of course If You Leave is a classic.

I'm not familiar really with any of their stuff besides If You Leave. But it's one of my favorite 80s songs. I do remember another song, I don't remember now if it was the same year as If You Leave, or was a couple of years after that they did called Dreaming. The chorus if I remember went, I was only dreaming, I was only trying to catch your eye. I was only wishing you would notice me, instead you said goodbye. I haven't heard either that or If You Leave in a long time. I liked Dreaming, it wasn't quite as good as If You Leave, but still a good song. I remember If You Leave was on the soundtrack of some movie, but I can't remember which one now. Anyone remember? I'm sure someone on here will! I can't remember what movies most of those 80s soundtrack hits are from anymore, some but not a lot.

I would say that If You Leave, at least for me, is one of the definitive 80s hits, with the way it sounded and all.

Pretty sure it was Pretty in Pink that had If You Leave on it.
Dreaming was a good song too. I have the Best of cd of theirs, and I really like almost all the songs on it.
