Subject: Top 300 Modern Rock Songs

Another great list I found. Source: Textfiles site. Unfortunately "MTV 100 Videos from 1985" is the only MTV countdown list on the site.
What's your opinion? Good or bad. 8)

BTW, the list goes to #299, but still worth checking out. :)

Sounds like the list was voted on by nothing but New Wave fans and Goths.

Probably because KITS might've been (or still is) an alternative station.
"Modern Rock" is another word for alternative.
Ex) Like the compilation CDs of the same name.

Yeah, as said, there is a lot of new wave/synth/goth rock on that list. But I like it. Many, many of my favorites are on there.

Kinda cool to see Secession "The Magician" at no. 16. Must've been a popular local radio hit as that song is fairly obscure.
EBN OZN "AEIOU Sometimes Y." Funny and different song but ultimately emberassing and bad. And at no. 35 to boot. Typical early '80s new-wave novelty hit.
Pleased to see stuff by Anything Box, Ministry, Until December, Front 242, Bauhaus, Dramarama, Cetu Javu, Killing Joke, Vitamin Z and Figures on a Beach make the list as well.

I'd say the same about "Love's Taboo" by Cube at no. 11.
Lots o' good stuff on that list. Quite a few of those make it into my show each week.

Many good songs on it, and I'd as well probably put "How Soon Is Now?" at #1 and "Bizarre Love Triangle" close behind. But I think it focuses a little too heavily on alternative new wave, though I love that genre; there's also alot of great new wave pop/synthpop (i.e. Tears for Fears.) Also, I'm wondering what they consider modern rock...for example, I consider R.E.M. postmodern/alternative rock.
