I gotta say "Say You, Say Me" by Lionel Richie.
It's slow then it inexplicably goes fast ("So, you think you know the answer..."), and then slow again ("Believe in who you are....").
And, he's not content just to have a dream, he has an "awesome dream."

Hmm..worst song of the 80's for me..i cant think of a really horrid horrid one at the moment but here is one that always annoyed me.."Your the insperation"

Worst Of All Time: Tough call, but I'm going with "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks. This buy was a deserving One-Hit-Wonder seeing as anyone who liked this song probably wound up wanting to blow their brains out! (His album shouldve been "Unplugged"! ;D

i'm surprised no one has mentioned "I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene(1982)since i know so many people that hate that song...i actually sort of enjoy it..it came out when i was in grade seven and it was a bit of a change of pace.
i can't think of a song to nominate yet.. :-\\

i know exactly what you mean!!!! i've always thought that would've been a great song to dance to (slow, that is) if that fast part would be taken out.someday i'll do my own remix or something like an edit and i'll let you hear it!!! ha ha.

it's bad enough to have a band come out with one bad song but two? how bout men without hats? "safety dance" and "pop goes the world". the first song had a video that gave me the creeps and the second song kinda gives me hopes that someday i can have a top 40 hit by just making up some crazy lyrics mixed with some kooky keyboard sounds!!!! okay maybe these aren't the worst songs ever from the 80's. Safety Dance at least had a remix that was cool and actually had some airplay(s,s,s,s,a,a,a,a,f,f,f,f,e,e,e,e,t,t,t,t,y,y,y,y safety dance,dance,dance...) anyone remember that mix?

In defense of Men Without Hats, the songs that didn't become singles are better than the ones that did! I, too, could do without ever hearing "Safety Dance" again, but I will say that their first album, Rhythm Of Youth (which, incidentally, is the album "Safety Dance" is on), is actually quite good! Very Euro-electropop sounding and worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing. :)
I'll come up with a worst song of the 80's and worst song ever later on. I can't think of one off the top of my head right now.

I've seen some pretty good nominations so far. I'd have to agree with ktelqueen who nominated I've Never Been To Me; good message, but really corny lyrics. I think it could be tied with this other song that's actually quite obscure and it's called Saturday Morning Fever; I forget the band name though. Good thing it is obscure though cause it's BAD!

Yes, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. Mush.
Not as schmaltzy as Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson's "The Girl is Mine."
(because the doggone girl is mine!)
I'm not saying it's the worst song note for note objectively, it just makes you sick to your stomach. Same goes with Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You." Played waaay too many times!

Ok, ok. I'm stickin'-up for this tune. It was Eddie's best musical effort, IMO and plain funny. It's a tune about putting things in your butt. The auto-censors would edit the name of the album, but the web would provide that with little effort. :-X

...Tweet's "Birdie Song (The Birdie Dance)" (1981) followed by the aforementioned Joe Dolce's "Shaddap You Face" (1981) and Kylie Minogue's "I Should Be So Lucky" (1987).
While the worst song ever IMO is...
...Aqua's "Barbie Girl" (1997) followed by tones of similar other ones.

"Superbowl Shuffle"

My most hated song of the 80s is "Be Good Johnny" by Men at Work. It never became a hit in America, but lucky for Canada, it reached the Top 20. I don't hate it as much as I used to (I can tolerate it), but the repetitive "Be good" lyric get under my skin

My most hated song of the 80s is "Be Good Johnny" by Men at Work. It never became a hit in America, but lucky for Canada, it reached the Top 20. I don't hate it as much as I used to (I can tolerate it), but the repetitive "Be good" lyric get under my skin
It was the 3rd and final single from their 1982 "Business as Usual" album
Well it's up there. Maybe "most overrated and overplayed song of the 80s" but not worst.
Although most other tracks on that album weren't too bad.

I'll have to go with both " Heart Attack" and " Let's get physical" Oliva Newton John as the worst songs of the 80's.
My sister was a big fan of hers, had the album and sang to it all the time.
The worst song of all time has got to be these two:
" You light up my life"
and
"Feelings"
Who sang Feelings anyway?
Fee e e e lings, woah woah Feelings... >:(

I hate this song so much my ex-wife used to help me with a scam to get out of playing it at the bar. People would beg for this song and I'd tell them to go turn on the radio or give them the CD to listen to in their car. When they'd start trying to tip me money to play it, my ex would be nearby and give me $20/$50/$100 to NOT play it. ;D
To this day you'll only hear it maybe once a year on my show.

It's definitely:
Buckner & Garcia: Pac-Man Fever.
I actually like the opening synth riff to "Tarzan Boy." "Pac-Man Fever" is ear poison through and through.
In the running:
Bon Jovi: Livin' On a Prayer
Bonnie Tyler: Holding Out for a Hero
Eddie Murphy: Party All the Time
Eddie Murphy: How Could it Be?
Sylvia: Nobody
Poison: Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Def Leppard: Pour Some Sugar on Me
U.S.A. for Africa: We Are the World
Sheena Easton: Morning Train
Sheena Easton: Strut
The Pointer Sisters: New Attitude (was that even the Pointer Sisters?)
Now, the worst song EVER just happened to be a hit in the '80s:
Charlene: I've Never Been to Me
So technically it's the worst '80s song too, but it's got more of a '70s feel because it was written (by the Satan) in the '70s!
The worst song of all time has got to be these two:
" You light up my life"

"Feelings"

Great contenders, but "I've Never Been to Me" still wins by a nose!
Dig--somebody decided to use Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life" as an introduction to ASL. They translated the whole song into sign language and sent the instructional package around to all the schools. We had to learn it in the 6th grade. Our teacher thought it would be a swell idea for the class to learn "You Light Up My Life" in ASL and then perform it for some deaf children, which didn't end up doing. Nonetheless, I had to hear that song twice a week for an entire semester! It would have been impertinent for me to protest to Miss Drouin that we were doing a great disservice 'coz one of the few advantages of being deaf was never having to hear "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone!
:P
Boom Boom, Let's Go Back To My Room, by Paul Lekakis, is also bad too... ::)
But Boom Boom was one of those songs that was so bad it was funny!
"Come On Eileen" - Dexys Midnight Runners
I did, when I had a girlfriend named Eileen!

Actually, It was an interesting blend of Celtic folk and rock, but it had a limited shelf life. After the first 500 times hearing it, it gets stale. Then it's just annoying.
nah, it's more like diahrrea. What still baffles me is how Mr. Roboto hit the Top 5
I did like the chord progressions and the robotic voice, and it did fit the technophobic backlash in the early '80s, exemplified by movies such as "Blade Runner." And the refrain uses the Japanese phrase for "thank you very much," "Domo Arigato." Of course it was cheesy as f**k, we're talking about Styx...but at least it wasn't like "Come Sail Away," and "Babe." And the rock-opera stage show for the "Kilroy Was Here" tour was straight outta "Spinal Tap"!
:P
Pump Up The Volume - M.A.R.R.S
Push It - Salt 'n' Pepa
Although I suppose they're good to listen to if you're trying to give yourself a massive migraine.
Horrid, both of them. However, we didn't have to hear any more from M/A/R/R/S. Salt 'n' Pepa nauseated me, they were so gross, and we had to put up with them again in the early '90s "Oooh baby baby-bu-baby baby!" Yeah, that's profound. Then there was the abominable, "Let's talk about sex bay-be, let's talk about you an' me, let's talk about all the good things and the bad things...that may-be! Let's talk about sex!"
Uhhh....how about let's get tested for HIV and then go study for our GEDs, how about it girls?
::)
The funny thing about M/A/R/R/S is it was a collaboration between A.R. Kane and Colourbox, neither of which were very good, but both of which had some modestly good stuff out on the 4AD label. Maybe the group should get back together and support Eminem on his next tour. Call it the "Eminem--M/A/R/R/S" tour!

I'm surprised nobody said "Lets Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Wlliiams. That song is so corny and it defines what 80's cheese is. I remember hearing that song when I was little and that song has aged very poorly in my opininion. Just the lyrics were just so bad. The production was standard for its time though. My mom was singing that song a few years ago and I said stop singing it its the worse song.
"I Ran So Far Away" by the Flock Of Seagulls that sounds really dated but I don;t think its the worst song. I remember listening to that song when i was rediscovering the 80's after I graduated High School in the late 90's. I don;t think I'll be listening to Flock of Seagulls any time soon though. My Dad was joking about their band name "The Flock Of Seagulls" one time.

"Poor Some Sugar On Me" is an ok song. "Every Rose Has Its thorn" was a great song. I'm one of those people that detests hair metal because I was teen in the 90's and I liked Alternative Rock from the early to mid 90's too. I agree with you on "Morning Train" that song has aged very poorly. No "New Attitude" was by Patti Labelle not the Pointer Sisters.
Eddie Murphy-Yeah some actors were singers or at least tried to be in the 80's. Don Johnson had a hit in the 80's. Jack Wagner was another actor/singer. "All I need" by Jack Wagner doesn;t very good now though. It sounded good in 1984 I bet and I do remember that song when I was little.

I think that Gloria by Laura Branigan is one of the most underrated songs of the eighties.
She has such a powerful voice to deliver such a song, and she looked so sexy in her video clip :)
RIP Gloria.
The worst I cant really say because the 80's are so synonomous with really bad records.
I could probably single out a top 20, maybe even scrape together a top 50 of great 80's tracks.
One song that bugged me was tell her about it by Billy Joel.
I wasnt keen on taking advice from a guy that had just broken up with a supermodel.
Either way, I didnt like the lyrics,or the advice in his lyrics, because it made it sound like he understood women when he had no clue.

Teena Marie. "Still In Love" by her was one of my favorite songs of 2004 back a few years ago. Ooh La La was good too and that was from 1987. "Fire and Desire" with her and Rick James is classic.

Have to disagree totally!
'Gloria' is totally overplayed on the radio, and is beginning to get a little annoying. I guess because of the 'Flashdance' resurgence it's cemented it's place on the airwaves.
'Self Control' on the other hand is a vastly superior single, yet not played anywhere near as much. >:(
