Subject: Looking for people age 16-20 into '80s music

Written By: Ben Wener on 5/11/2000 at 7:07 p.m.

Hi, this is Ben Wener, the pop music critic for the Orange County Register in Southern California. I'm working on a story, speculating on how and when and why '80s music might come back into vogue on a major scale, and I stumbled onto this site.

Obviously there are many people who lived through that era and have fond memories, but the point of my story will be this: For an era to undergo a huge period of nostalgia, it must be attractive and kitschy to a generation that wasn't around to experience it the first time. (As a comparison, think of the '70s remembering the '50s, in that the biggest fans of "American Grafitti" and "Happy Days" were kids who were too young to experience it the first time.)

So the purpose of my post: Is there anyone out there between the ages of 16-20 (and preferably in Southern California, though that's not crucial) who would be willing to talk about why they're into the '80s? Anyone fitting that demographic who is involved with an '80s web site, an '80s fanzine, or some other form of '80s nostalgia? Or if you don't fit that description, do you know someone who does?

I'm hoping to find some sources like this in the next week or so. Hopefully someone will help!

Thanks. Email me if you have any info. It will be most appreciated.

Hi there Ben Wener I don't exactly fit your age of choice I just turned 21 in march. However I am a very big fan of 80's music and movies and as for a documentary as to why I like these things so much I cannot fit the time in my schedule to enlighten you. Sorry, if you would like maybe I could tell you when I have some time to spare like this afternoon? Please post a response if you would like to hear from me further. Thanks!
