Subject: Beware of Love Letters...

Written By: ChuckyG on 5/4/2000 at 12:09 p.m.

I've already had two sent to me today, deleted them both open receiving them.. new virus like Melissa (aren't people original anymore?) spreads via Microsoft email products.. somewhat nasty virus..

I remember back in the 80s when virus' did K001 things like make all the letters on your screen fall to the bottom (Falling Tears/Cascade) or formated your hard drive.. now all they do is clog your email server...

Yeah I've heard of that on the news today too. Apparentely it started in the Phillipines. The e-mail message is intitled something like 'Iloveyou', so if you find it, don't open! It's affected all the House Of Commons as well.

We were "lucky" here at work, since a friend who works elsewhere got it first and called to warn us. This was a little while before it made it onto the news.

I didn't mind the old-fashioned kind of virus, that would insert a naughty word or two into your document. It was invisible until you tried to print, then after printing it was there, plain as day. It taught us the importance of proofreading, and having a friend also proofread. Imagine sending out a resume with "YOU JERK" or worse right in the middle of it!
