Subject: Summarize the spirit of your generation

Written By: mandy on 4/26/2000 at 1:48 a.m.

Hey everyone! I am the one doing the project on eighties movies and stereotypes. I need some more information on what it was like to be a teen in the eighties. Please tell me the general attitude of you and your peers about school, cliques, what separated each of you from each other in regard to cliques. I would also like to know what you guys valued. Was it money, success, or just having fun? What do you think the differences were between teens of the eighties and teens of the 90's? Thanks for your responses! It will be a big help!

Ah, yes my teens ! The 80's. Today's (90's reference) situation, in my opinion really is not any different from 11, 18 years ago. Each one of us has faults and strengths to go by. But all of us wants to better ourselves. I belong to a variety of crowds, (I'm not originally from this country, been here no more than 10 years) but I'm assuming life on the other side of the world is not at all that much different for a teen of the 80's. Some of us plan ahead, some slide by, day to day. A few saw theirs in a "haze of smoke", or a "mist of liquid". I kept to myself to find my identity, and party, to find IT in others. **QUERY: What would YOU do with this data ?** If after compiling these informations, would you compare it, to today's ? If so, Tag this question at the end of it, DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING FROM THAT ERA ?.............Gomen Nasai, hoped this helped, apologies for the rantings.

>Hi! I'm 27 and my boyfriend is 28 and we were just talking about this a few days ago. I think the 80s were alot easier to grow up in than the 90s. In my highschool (which consisted of 432 people) everyone knew everyone even though you had your "clicks". But unlike today, if we heard about a teen pregnancy, it was a shock, not like today when it's so common. Kids still wanted to go to college when they got out of school, not start a family even before they graduated. We had drugs in the 80s but I don't think the problem was as big as it is now. I don't think elementary kids knew what pot was!! I really think todays kids have it harder, maybe its because the teens of the 80s didn't really grow up, but now were starting to raise our own kids!!?? I have a 7 year old daughter and I would like to think I don't have to talk about sex and drugs with her yet. My parents sure didn't have to talk to me about it at that age. But I do have to talk to her, they have Just say NO rallys at her school. Drugs and teen sex is alot worse now and I personally don't think I could handle the pressure todays teens have. I'm glad I was in what I consider the last normal generation!! Sorry if I got off track - hoped I helped!! Brandy

I totally agree with you about todays kids and the sex and drugs. But I believe we (from the 80's)are NOT the ones to blame. The next generation will be our kids. I blame the 70's people! I mean I have 3 older siblings who are from the 70's and many of my friends have relatives and/or people they know that graduated around "76. And they are screwed up people!!! and they're kids most in high school are screwed up too because of them! The perfect example is a quotes my sisters class of '79 and "76 say : The "76 sister believes in telling her kids about EVERYTHING she has done from sex to drugs "so they don't make the same mistakes which I'm sorry but if my mom told me some of her stories I'd have no respect for herand probably be screwed up!. and the sister from "79 says "Like we didn't do that too!" Then my friends mom whowas also a '76 grad had him when she was 15 ran off from the father who has no idea where his son is now and raised him in abusive homes, and she and her many loves did drugs and told him all about the many "affairs". So thank god he turned out ok with only mild problems. But seee what I mean?

I'm sorry, I'm way off the subject and I talked WAY TOO LONG on this topic.

Again, Sorry. Vicky
