Subject: Starship's Layin' It On The Line - help

Written By: Trisha on 4/12/2000 at 7:38 a.m.

I found an old eighties cassette taped off the radio with a song on it that I didn't know the name or artist. I think I've figured it out to be Starhip's Layin' It On The Line but need confirmation... Chorus goes like this: Standing on solid rock, standing on sacred ground, living on borrowed time....Layin' it on the line... Is that the right song? Would appreciate the help.

I've researched it and now know it's not the right song. If anyone has any idea what this song is, please let me know. It could be "going on down the line" instead of "layin' it on the line...please help."

Sounds like The Alan Parsons Project's "Standing On Higher Ground." It features vocals by Geoff Barrandale of Vitamin Z. It was on the album "Gaudi," which I think is still in print on CD.

I have "Gaudi" and yes the lyrics sound very close, but the beat is different. Love that song Standing on Higher Ground! Ever hear Closer To Heaven on that same album?

The song I'm looking for sounds more like Asia - contemporary rock. It has a quick beat... Standing on (pause) solid rock (pause) standing on (pause) sacred ground etc.

Thanks anyway

Nope, not it. I listened to it over the internet. The lyrics are real close though. I love Bad Company and probably would have recognized their sound if it was them. No, this is not as hard rock as Bad Company (not that they are that hard). I appreciate all your help on this. I research it a little bit every day. I think I'll explode once I find out what it is! Today I'm looking into Loverboy and Billy Ocean. If you find anything out let me know.

Okay, this one's too easy, and it's been discussed on this board before (yawn). Your "mystery song" is "Solid Rock" by Goanna, a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Summer of '83. It was off the group's 1982 album, "Spirit of Place". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. (I have the cassette myself.)

Layin' it On the Line was done by Triumph 1985. It's a live recording on a cassette called Stages..it also contains Mind Games and Empty Inside.
