Subject: 80's sci-fi show - obelisks
HI there! When I was young, I remember a TV show in the early eighties about a family that traveled from world to world through a series of obelisks in the desert. I recall that there was a young boy, who in one episode was in some sort of military school at which the teacher was Michael Ironsides (I think), the dude who played Ham in the show V (another 80's classic). he had a mechanical hand that produced a blue flame, and he told the boy to pass his hand through the flame. The boy did just that, without being injured, and the teacher asked him, "How did you know it was cold?" The daughter was blonde, I think.
What was the name of that show? Any ideas or recollections? Much appreciated!

I remember a little of this show because it was shown on the Sci-Fi Channel a few years ago. I think it was called Otherworld, and about 20 episodes from 84-85? I think. The family (father, mother, teenage boy, blonde teenage girl, and preteen boy) was transported to a parallel Earth that was much darker and militaristic, and they were running all over the world to find a portal out.
I remember in one episode, the older boy and girl got famous singing Beatles songs, even. It was shown on Sci-Fi's "Series Showcase" which played sci-fi shows that just didn't last too long. They had some real gems of series besides this one, and they even showed the airdates, network, episode names and even some interviews.
