I remember a "Mr. T" cereal based on the dude from The A Team. I recalled that it tasted the same as other "novelty" cereals in the past (apparently there is some generic cereal formula that gets used over and over). I think there was a Strawberry Shortcake cereal also (based on the popular S.S. doll). It seems that the 80s was a time of expansion in the area of fruit and cereal mixtures. It used to be that only Raisin Bran had fruit but then in the 80s you started getting dates, peaches, etc. (such as in the Fruit & Fiber line of cereal).
I think the monster cereals go even further back, into the 70s. At one time they experimented with a fruit flavored version and the character was a werewolf (his name was Fruit Brute). In terms of Captain Crunch, they experimented with a Cinnamon Crunch, Punch Crunch and Choco Crunch. Of course, none of these these things lasted. I used to love Punch Crunch and even though I haven't had any in ages, I still remember the taste. For the record, there was also a vanilla wafer version of Cookie Crisp (also in the 70s).
Man, look at all this stuff I dredged up on the topic of cereal. Guess whose mom hated cooking breakfast?

Subject: Smurfberry Crunch
Anyone remember Smurfberry Crunch? I thought that stuff was soooo good! Truly a dated 80s cereal. Also, when I ate the Count Chocula, etc. cereal, I always wished it were nothing but marshmallows as I picked the crunchy corn-pop pieces out. I saw an allusion to this on the Simpsons recently, actually--only Bart was eating Lucky Charms.
Bonus: Remember the Smurfberry Crunch jingle?
"Smurfberry Crunch is fun to eat,
A smurfy, fruity breakfast treat,
It's berry red and blue berry,
And tastes like crunchy smurfberries,
etc, etc."

Are you talking about Boo Berry (with the little ghost) and Frankenberry (with Frankenstein)?

You say "was" like they're past tense, they're still around. Well, at least they are here where I am. There's Boo Berry, frankenberry, and Count Chocula.

They're still around here where I live too. Frankenberry, and Count Chocula are easy to find. But Boo Berry is hard to find. We have this morning DJ here that will have people call in and tell him where to get it. It is usually store employees.

I remember a cereal called Freakies, but this may have been in the late 70's. Also from the 70's, I remember cereals called Red Baron and Concord Grape.

I remember a cereal called "Bigg Mixx" it had a moose-like creature on the box. I forgot what it tasted like it was so long ago. I also remember a cereal which had little ice cream cones, and puffs which were supposed to be the ice cream, they had chocolate, rocky road, and vanilla puffs.
