Subject: Heavy Metal
I was watching this show called "The List" I don't know if anyone's ever heard of it. Anyways, I watched the show for best heavy metal band and Led Zepplin was voted best heavy metal band. Does anyone else disagree with me that they shouldn't be first? Especially with second and third going to Metallica and Black Sabbath? Just wondering -thanx

I'm not a huge fan of the show the List, but I saw that episode and had to watch it since I love heavy metal. I don't think Led Zepplin is heavy metal at all and I'm glad you all agree. I think they are more hard core rock then anything else. I do like them, but KISS was eliminated from the list and they definitly should've been on the list. Judas Priest should've been on there, and Motley Crue...Metallica was an okay second choice, but Black Sabbath should've beaten them out for sure, along with a couple other metal bands, but then that list would go on forever, and Led Zepplin wouldn't be on it, or wind up at the very bottom!

I LOVE "The List"!! One day, VH1 had a marathon of that show, and I was so hooked that I didn't get a thing done. I agree that Led Zeppelin isn't really heavy metal--I think they're more like Pink Floyd: hippie music that's kind of witchy, so parents hate it as much as heavy metal. I used to be one of the biggest headbangers on earth, and I think that Black Sabbath should be #1 too. I didn't see that episode of "The List," but if I had, I'd have posted a message on here. Here's how my list would go:
1. Black Sabbath 2. Metallica 3. AC/DC 4. Motorhead 5. Judas Priest 6. Guns'n'Roses 7. Motley Crue 8. Kiss 9. Megadeth 10. L.A. Guns--an unpopular choice, but I still rock out to their debut album.

First, I'd argue that Led Zeppelin weren't in fact haeavy metal. If I'm not mistaken, Black Sabbath had their first album out the same year as Zeppelin I. Sabbath's album set out all of the basics at that point and "Paranoid" in 1970 (71?) clinched it. Zeppelin mixed blues and folk with world music THEN turned up the volume. Sabbath, by contrast is mostly about the repetitive riffs, and not necessarily as diverse as Zeppelin.
As to the list, Black Sabbath should definitely be #1 with Deep Purple and perhaps AC/DC and Metallica tied at a close second.

I also agree Led Leppelin is NOT heavy metal Black Sabbath, yes But along with all the ones you mentioned how about Judas Priest or anyone heard of Accept with Udo Dirkschnieder (I think I spelled it right) crues shout at the devil cd was cool too. My list could go on forever with rock and heavy metal. But who's the best? Don't know that.
