Possibly could be Let me go by Heaven 17 whose lead singer sounded similar. Some of the lyrics went like this....

Dan: I'm afraid this is not the song. I've got it from Napster and you're right, the voice sounds similar but ...no.I remembered something else like:"And run, but don't run to my door" & "I turn the pages as fast as I can, and I can't recall a boy". I'm looking for this song since 1988!!! Thanx a lot!
