Subject: Vote for your favorite musical decade!

Suite 101.com's Pop Music Site is having a poll to see what everybody's favorite musical decade was. I'm sure readers of this site will want to vote for the 80's! Here's the address: http://www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/pop_music

Notice how the 1990's are getting beat even by the 50s and 60s? Shows how bad the 90s really are. I know I will get it for this one, but I must confess I voted for the 70s, the decade of one hit wonders more than any other and being a disco, R&B, rock and roll and pop fan you could not go wrong with the 70s in my opinion.

Aj, I'm right there with ya! I also voted for the 70's as being my favorite musical decade!!! The 80's are great, but something about the music of the 70's just sets it apart from all others.

I voted for the 90s, yes those AWFUL, DISGUSTING, REPULSIVE, HIDEOUS 1990s!!!!! I am a 90s girl. Sure, the 90s had some cruddy music, but it wasn't ALL bad! Look back further than 1998 everybody!! I know I will sure get it now, but I've HAD IT!!! I will always be an 80s child and most definatley a 90s girl. I still own a pair of MC Hammer pants, dozens of Blossom hats, nail polish of every color, ALL of Mariah Carey's cds (The ICON of the 90s), I still have my "Friends" poster on my closet door, Agent Dale Cooper and Agent Fox Mulder ARE my heroes! Long live the 90s!!

Is it me, but do you take everything personal? First off, I am not cutting YOU or your tastes down, I'm just favoring a decade over the other which I gather you are trying to do as well but sometimes it is hard to tell because it seems as if your trying to defend yourself instead of the decade itself. They say generations are 20-25 years, but I have always argued that point strongly. In my most honest opinion you grew up in another time compared to me. I grew up in BOTH the 70s and 80s, living enough in the 70s to remember a significant part as a child, then the entire decade of the 80s, I was 8 when it started in 1980 how old were you? Can you remember that year when everyone wondered WHO SHOT JR, John Lennon passed away and we elected a terrible President in Reagan. I remember it all and was fortunate enought to capture many of these moments on video as I had a machine back then to tape it all. The most important memories though rest in our minds and hearts. Generations these days seem to run 5-10 years anymore it has alot to do with our childhood because like it or not we base things from it still. I did not grow up with Blossom or MC Hammer, I grew up with John Travolta and Rick Springfield. I'm not saying one is better than the other, its all a matter of opinion.

There is "quit" MC Hammer after all, everyone "quit" buying his music. What an original artist, he covered Rick James, Prince, the Chi-lites and other bands. Look at another artist of that time, Vanilla Ice if he is so damn talented as MC Hammer why does he show up on Where Are They Now Specials and such. Remember her covered a Bowie/Queen hit "Under Pressure" which sadly I'm sure many do not know that because kids today think these artists do original material...NOT! As talented as Sean "Puffdaddy" Combs is, I must confess he does a major share of covering too. Don't get me wrong I loved Run DMC's version of WALK THIS WAY and Weird Al who covers everything.

John> Lennon passed away and we elected a terrible President in Reagan. Reagan a terrible president??? I STRONGLY differ on THAT opinion!! I remember when we elected a terrible PRESIDENT CLINTON

After Twin Peaks was canceled nobody really cared who killed Laura Palmer, even Dallas TV Movie reunions outshine that.

Yes Reagan was a terrible president, the worst creature to crawl out of the 1980s. I despise him and Bush and always will. As for Clinton, at least we got a President whose hearing is good and mind is working. I'm sorry you cant say that about Ronnie especially in his second term. He was incapacitated and incapable of being President. So glad we didnt elect Bob Dole for those same reasons. I voted for Clinton twice, were you even old enough to vote for him ever?

Ok, this is getting a little silly; I never really intended for anyone to take my post seriously, but it's gotten to the point where I feel you're cutting me down. First of all, what's all this "who old were you then" and age crap? Where did THAT come from? Second of all, I apologize if you got the impression I take everything personal; I never intended for that to happen. I'm Sorry I wasn't born in 1969, and couldn't experience the 80s "in its full glory". I'm sorry I can't remember "Who Shot JR?" or when John Lennon was killed. I can't help when I was born. At least I was alive in the 80s and got to see it thru a child's eyes.

Peace, Lori Jill

P.S. I actually live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and I used to remember watching "Dallas" with my grandparents on Friday nights when I spent the night at their house, so yes, I hold a place for JR Ewing in my heart. I know Twin Peaks was only on for one season and Dallas about 11 years, but did Dallas have dancing midgets, cherry pie, black coffee, The Log Lady, Audrey Horne, and sexy Kyle Maclachlan as Agent Dale Cooper??? :D

Again your taking it personal, please don't. Defend the decade and your interests instead of yourself. If anything, I am teasing you so take a chill pill Lori Jill.

Dallas was on 13 wonderful glorious years spanning the 70s, 80s and 90s it is the show I grew up with starting with kindergarten all the way to the end of my first year of college. I could never understand Twin Peaks, but I will give it brownie points for bringing back Peggy Lipton to ABC! Can you tell me what ABC hit series she was on at one time?! <;-)

Peggy was star of "The Mod Squad"!

The way you grew up with "Dallas" is the way I grew up with "Full House". That show premiered in 1987, when I was in 3rd grade and ended in 1995, when I was a junior in high school. I think that is so cool!

About Twin Peaks, I never really understood it either when it was on (I was in 6th grade), but about a year ago I saw the entire series at the video store and saw all of those famous images I remembered so well (Cherry pie, The Log Lady) and was like "Oh my gosh! I remember that now!" You had to view each and every episode each week; it was like a mini-series almost.

Anyway, I hope we can be friends...You seem like a really cool person, and I always enjoy talking to those who were fortunate enough to live as a teenager in the 80s!!

Peace, Miss Lori Jill
