Well, I'm not sure what other people think it means, but around here it refers to something kinda stupid, goofy, corny, silly. Hope that helps!

To me it means tawdry, chintzy, shoddy, sort of like cheap. I hope this doesn't confuse you.

I would never speak for anyone on this message board, though many of us grew up in the same era, growing up in different parts of the country and other factors make us different. My definition of cheesy is pretty much anything from about the early 70s-late 80s. I mean the clothes were god awful in the early 70s with the hippie movement still intact, the hair looked goofy on people, then we're in the mid-late 70s and you have disco and the clothes, hair, music? As much as I loved it all, cheesy defined that era. Then new wave came in and I loved the drastic change in clothes, hair, music, et all but honestly I wouldn't be caught dead in those outfits or hairstyles anymore than the previous years. I think following the new wave era we had a emphasis on the stoner look fashioned from the glammy rock bands, whether it be heavy or straight metal or just plain rock and roll, but we also had preppie looks that were very conservative and in the late 80s when I attended high school we had a 60s revival and everyone wanted to look and dress like hippies again. Its like it turned full circle to me. Cheesy is Max Headroom to me, Cheesy is seeing those infomericals on bands of the 70s and 80s. Howard Duck the Movie, cheesy! People wearing Michael Jackson red jackets in the 80s, cheesy, breakdancing cheesy! Cheesy! Cheesy! I probably have bored everyone to death and not made any sense, so I have nothing more to say but Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, why? Because its the cheesiest! <;-)
Aj
PS-Hopefully some will remember that old commercial!
Subject: I prefer to call them the BIG eighties.
Big, larger than life, yuppie, neon-lit, übercolorful, somehow pompous (remember the music video for 'Wild Boys', hah) - but how we still love those times!
