Subject: do you know this song?

Written By: rainy on 11/4/1999 at 2:59 a.m.

I have had this song stuck in my head and don't know who sings it or what it's called. It includes the words "one is the loneliest number". I can hear the music but for the life of me can't remember the artist or the song title. Help!

Sure sounds like ONE by Three Dog Night to me, lead vocals by Chuck Negron on that one. <;-)

Sure was. The song came out in 1968 and was their first top 10 hit. It was written by Harry Nilsson, who had hits in his own right that he didn't write, including a song later covered by Mariah Carey, "Without You."

He also sang the classic theme song to "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father" in 1969 and the hit song from MIDNIGHT COWBOY (Dustin Hoffman/John Voigt), "Everybody's Talkin" also 30 years ago.

We lost Harry a few years back, a very talented songwriter and singer, who never received the popularity he should have all along.
