Subject: Who sang these songs?

Written By: Aj on 10/28/1999 at 10:52 p.m.

Who sang these songs I only know just part of the chorus!?

1)"Your slipping away from me" (repeated in chorus often, was it Toto?)

2)"Darling a love like this is hard to find" (was this Freddie Jackson, Luther Vandross? Sounds similiar to them!?

I'm sorry but those are the only words I can recall!

Thanks, Aj

Okay, no sooner did I click on the "Post Message" button to submit my previous response, when the answer to Mystery Song #2 hit me, LOL! It's "Don't Make Me Wait for Love" by Kenny G (yes, the one & only!), featuring soul/r&b singer Lenny Williams on vocals (yes, his voice is indeed similar to that of Freddie Jackson's and Luther Vandross's). When the song was originally released as a single, it became a minor r&b hit in the Winter of '87 (but failed to cross over to the pop chart at that time). After the huge top 10 pop success of Kenny G's follow-up, "Songbird" (his breakthrough hit, as you may recall), "Don't Make Me Wait for Love" was re-issued, and became a hit all over again-only bigger-in the Fall of '87 (this time going top 20 on both the r&b and pop charts). It was off of Kenny G's 1986 album, "Duotones". Fortunately, the album is still in print today on both cassette & CD here in the U.S. "Don't Make Me Wait for Love" was also included on Kenny G's 1997 "Greatest Hits" collection, which you can also still get today on both cassette & CD...

Mystery song #1 is "Alibis" by Sergio Mendes, a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Summer of '84. It was off his 1984 solo album, "Confetti". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print in all formats, and has never been issued on CD here in the U.S. However, "Alibis" was included on his 1987 hits collection, titled "A&M Classics, Volume 18", which is credited to Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66-'86. It's still in print today, and is CD-only...

Mystery song #2 is also very familiar to me, and for some reason, isn't coming to my mind at the moment! I'll be sure to post here again if & when it hits me!

I must say you amaze me, all I gave you were just a few words not even sure if those were the correct one's and you gave me all this information in return! When you say "Sergio Mendes" I knew it was him finally, I could tell by his voice now, remembering "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go"-- I dont know why I thought it was Santana, Gino Vanelli or Toto. Speaking of Santana I loved his underated semi-hit song "Hold On", if you listen to the singer it sounds somewhat similiar to Mendes in my opinion.

As for the other singer Lenny Williams I have never heard of him before, but now I have an excuse to purchase Kenny G's Greatest Hits!!

Thanks so much again! Aj
