Subject: Herb Alpert

Written By: Andrew on 7/13/2001 at 1:49 p.m.

Can somebody tell me about Herb Alpert? He had the #1 instrumental hit in November 1979 with "Rise", and then came back in 1987 with Lisa Keith and Janet Jackson with the #5 hit "Diamonds". The only other thing I know about him is that he's like 66 today. Any information would be appreciated thanks.

There is band called Double (The captain of her heart, remember?)
They had another hit called "Devil's Ball" featuring Herb Alpert(trumpet).
This swiss band is one of my favorites, specially the vocalist, Kurt Maloo.

He had a whole other run of chart hits in the 1960's as the leader of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass (hits included the theme song to the TV show "The Dating Game" called "Spanish Flea") His trumpet was always the main focus of the all insrumental hits he had with the T.Brass. He did have a #1 hit in 1968 that he sang (could have been his only vocal hit) - "This Guy's In Love With You." Herb Alpert was also the "A" in A&M Records. He sold his share in the record label to PolyGram in the late 80's. A&M was home to acts like Styx, Cat Stevens, Bryan Adams, and Janet Jackson.
