I still have Napster(their search engine is disabled at this time), but for quite some time have been looking for a good alternative.
One of the good things about Napster was that it only dealt exclusively with MP3 files (no worries about contracting viruses), whereas other file sharing sites have other types of files along with MP3s which could not only open your computer system to a virus but also make the system vulnerable to hackers and such. *If I'm wrong about any of this, I welcome your corrections.*
So, any ideas as to which MP3 file sharing program is the safest for your computer and files?

There is only one true P2P out there in cyberspace and that is Morpheus. Forget Napster (RIP) this is the next big thing. U can download your mp3's, 80s music videos,movies, you name it - it's there. If you go to www.cnet.com and type in morpheus in the search box you should be able to download from there. It has such an easy interface looking for stuff is a breeze. At the time of writing there is 500 000 users on line with about 200 000 gb to share. Do it and spread the word....

I am currently using bearshare. Here's how I set up my file sharing. Click on set up on the bottom right side. A screen pops up and you have 5 choices to select. Select the sharing tab. After selecting this, the top should read, share the files in these directories.......In the middle of that screen you have a box where you can type in your files to be shared with others. If you want to only share mp3 files just type in the location of those files. For example,
c:\program files\napster\
This way, people could only upload from your napster file.

i am using audiogalaxy. i havent had a problem yet and there seems to be no problem finding song titles, artists, etc.

...audiogalaxy. Then I read a few user rating opinions and experiences like this one:

"Warning: contains WebHancer spyware"
Only install this if you do not mind being profiled through having your internet use continuously monitored. The version I installed contained WebHancer - check it out - it's extremely difficult to uninstall without major problems. It took me nearly 3 days to figure out what had gone wrong and to get my PC back in action!! Of course, they're not deceiptful about this -just read the small print in the program's licence... (have you ever read one of those licenses? Neither had I - but I do now!) Ad-Aware will scan your system for spyware, btw.

I am paranoid enough when it comes to computer on-line use. There already is enough info. out there from each of us users and our computers, our isp addresses and stuff. Any added threats to our privacy really turn me off - even to file sharing. Napster is still relatively safe. Too bad it SUCKS now. I'm a little frustrated but I'll get over it.

I'm using WinMX v2.6 (not previous!). No filters, you can search the artist by their real names!!!!!! I recommend it
I also have Bearshare, but it seems I never can get a good connection for this programm so searching and downloading is very hard.....
