You know I do not remember that hairstyle being called a mullet in the 80's. It was "short on top long in back". That is what we called them anyway and honestly I still like the style.

Yeah, I do too. And my kids are going to have that hairstyle also.

Yeah, when did it get a name? I first heard the term "mullet" 2yrs ago in a newsgroup. Most of us had no idea what it was until the person described it. Suddenly, since around last fall, it's a common term.
BTW, guilty of having one myself in high school ('86/'87). >;-P

Same here Fett69, just heard the term over a year ago.........and also had one in 86-88.
We always called it a bi-level.
I found this on a "mullet" site as to where the term came from:
