Subject: first MTV video

Written By: Matt Evert on 5/30/2001 at 3:45 p.m.

Does anyone know the very first MTV video that was aired? My co-workers and I were looking around the web to see which of us got the closest?

Thanks,

Matt

P.S. If you can, tell us where you found the info

Thank you for confirming that I wasn't crazy when we last tackled this subject on the "MTV" thread that was started back on Friday, 15 September 2000. At that time, I said I knew that one of Benatar's early videos was among the first 10 that MTV ever aired, and I believe you're right when you say hers was actually the second. However, during that same discussion, TX swore the second video was "Time Heals" by Todd Rundgren. (Refer to that old "MTV" thread for more details.) The debate continues...

She said she thinks "You Better Run" was the 2nd video played. (On BTM 1981)

I have learned since the "MTV" thread that AMG has quite a few mistakes.

About 2 years ago MTV had a trivia question on what the 2nd video ever aired on MTV was and they said it was Mickey by Toni Basil.

I have NO idea what the second video was. Not even sure what year we first got MTV. I came across a Todd Rundgren biography written by Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AMG, and HE said that "Time Heals" was the second video.

Just thought I would clear that up.
