Subject: 80's slang and greetings-help!
Please help. I'm writing a book that takes place in the 80's. 2 questions:
1) When did people start to say "bustin" on somebody or "dissing" somebody to refer to an insult?
2) When did people start giving each other high-fives as a greeting? When did low-fives end? Was there anything in between?
Thanks,
Yolanda Fan

"Dissing" is late 80s lingo. The meaning was to treat someone poorly or to insult someone.

High and low 5s were from the 80s. It went "up high, down low, too slow". Dissing came in late 80s.

"dissing" is a 90s term. "bustin" must also be 90s, I have never heard it used before.
high-fives were popular in the 80s, as were low-fives (usually together.) Like hit me high, hit me low (sometimes on the hit me low part you would pull your hand away before the other person has a chance to hit it, then you would say "your to slow." Yeah I know real mature, but we were just kids.)
Can't give a specific year on these things.
Hope this helps.
