Subject: 80s Formal Wear
Hi, I need help with 80s formal wear. are there any sites that describe the kind of dress clothes [tuxes, dresses, etc] that people [mainly high schoolers to proms and such] wore in the 80s? i am only seventeen now, and therefore was not able to experience this. also, are there any places were 80s formal wear can be purchased? my girlfriend and i are 80s fanatics and would love to go to the prom dressed 80s-ish next year. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
-Brian

>>>> I have many magazines from the 80s that feature fashions and prom wear.. Most libraries carry back issues of these mags...like Seventeen, Mademoiselle, Your Prom..etc..Try checking these out for some cool ideas! By the way..my opinion..the 80s had the best prom dresses since the 1950s!!

Brian - if you check the "fads" section of this site you can find some pretty helpful info. For guys the only thing I remember were VERY skinny ties. Girls had lots of lace (a la madonna) including fingerless lace gloves (all over E-bay). Good luck and have a GREAT time at the prom!

You might try calling any local vintage clothing or consignment shops; just look in the yellow pages!!! You might try calling a local formal wear store and see if they have anything from the 80s in their archives. Good luck!!!
