Subject: Duran Duran's Present Image

Written By: Hairspray on 4/24/2001 at 4:09 p.m.

How many of you feel that Duran Duran's looks, style, and music were best in the 80's?

Don't get me wrong - I am an absolute Duranie to this day and beyond.

It's just that I automatically think of them as they looked in the video RIO.

I am and always have been "in love" with their 80's image myself.

I like their 90s/00s image a little more - kind of worn out and trashy (makes me think of the film Sunset Boulevard or any film by Fellini). They have this decadent ambience about them, but at the same time the music they've been making is still excellent and quite up to par with their previous albums (I've said this before and, I think, I'm the only one on this one). It's strange that a current song like "Pop Trash" or "Ordinary World" could have more of a nostalgic/emotional effect on me than any of their previous works...

Your age and how much exposure you had (or didn't have) to them during their early era, may have had some impact on your outlook.

Then again, maybe their look now is kinda just part of your own style.

Did you ever do the "fedora" thing?

Fedoras are too hot to wear in a tropical place. The only people who wore them back then were the U.S. tourists. Everyone else wore comfortable and cool headgear for practical purposes.

Oh, yeah! I remember the "viceras" (I hope I spelled that right).
