I was watching Heavy Metal last night as it aired on VH1, and I noticed in the opening credits, it lists Michael Gross as a producer. Is this the same Michael Gross that played on Family Ties, by chance?

No, I think these are 2 different guys. This Michael Gross is also credited on such films as Beethoven, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Legal Eagles and Twins.
Subject: Interesting Tidbit
While checking on the Michael Gross info, I found out that he is the brother of Mary Gross, of SNL fame. I didn't know that.

I knew he and Mary Gross were brother/sister, but I think saying she was from SNL "fame" is pushing it a little far. She was probably the most un-popular person in the cast at the time
