Subject: Who Misses 80's Video Arcades & Games?

Written By: Hairspray on 4/19/2001 at 12:03 a.m.

There will never be IMO any video arcades, nor games as satisfying to play, as those of the awesome 80's. The music playing ever so synchronized... I can still hear it blasting through my memories.

A list of some of my personal favorite games:

Mrs. Pacman
Super Pacman
Donkey-Kong
Galaga
Space Invaders
Centipede
Rygar
Ghost & Gobblins

Geez! Can anyone think of others?

And I miss them pinball machines too!

Actually, there's a "nickel" arcade near where I live that's open until midnight or 1 a.m. and they have some REALLY old arcades. Pinball is good - no particular name, just plain ol' pinball.

As far as video games go, I have yet to meet anyone who has passed Level 99 in Galaga (I have gotten there, but then some butterfly or fly totally does a kamikaze job on me...). Here are some favourites:

1. Commando
2. Cabal (no joystick. It's controlled by a roll-on thingy).
3. Strider (a 90s video game)
4. Pengo
5. Exerion
6. Galaga
7. Shinobi
8. Altered Beast
9. Splatterhouse (another 90s video game)
10. Super Pac-Man
11. Bubble Bobble

...and so on...

Does one actually play a regular game in those wonderful machines really for just a nickel?

Yeah, most arcades are a nickel (the new ones - you know, the ones with like 20 punch buttons and 15 kick buttons?), but the really old arcades are FREE (yes, ladies and gentlemen, FREEEE!). You must pay $1.95 to get in, but you can stay there the whole day and see if you can pass NARC (probably THE toughest arcade game ever made - I have yet to beat it...). Shinobi, Commando, Galaga, Bubble Bobble, Final Fight, Buster Brothers, Mario Bros., Raiden, Arkanov, Tetris, and more - FREE.

WHERE are they??????? These arcades. General Area, of course.

Every arcade I have been to in the last 10 years charges up the wazoo for games.

In Orange County. Huntington Beach, Westminster, and Lake Forest. They're called "Nickel Nickel."
