Subject: Easter Sunday, back in the day

Written By: MDC on 4/15/2001 at 9:59 a.m.

Does anyone know why and when Easter became sort of a non-holiday? When I was a child, Easter was always a big event, and the entire family had to wear the nicest clothes to attend Sunrise Mass. Of course, there was the requisite Easter Egg Hunt, and the entire family and all the children would gather to celebrate the holiday, with a big meal. Not to mention all of the goodies the Easter Bunny brought. Is it just me, or has Easter just sort of been forgotten???

I agree with another post, everything's so politically correct these days...it makes me ill to be honest. I don't think there's as many families that attend church as there used to be when I was growing up. I'm not a "religion freak" but I do think part of the reason people are so screwed up these days is they need religion in their lives, especially the young ones. I bet I could ask my niece and nephew right now what Easter is about and they would have no clue!
As for the government recognizing it, I work for a local government and we get off Good Friday and tomorrow ("Easter Monday")...so that was good for me
