Subject: Another '80s hitmaker passes away...

Written By: 80smusicfreak on 4/14/2001 at 11:52 p.m.

Six days ago, on Sunday the 8th, Van Stephenson, who scored a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Summer of '84 w/ "Modern Day Delilah" (definitely among my 10 personal favorites from that year), died of melanoma, at age 45. Full story at the link below...

I was 14 in 84, but I don't remember that song. I can't find a clip of it on the net to hear it either. Anyone know where I can hear it and trigger my memory? Thanks!

Thank you TX!! I can't believe I didn't think of trying cdnow since I am there now listening to Eddie Rabbit clips! Anyway, the song does sound a bit familiar, maybe I was too into Duran Duran to know any other artists existed! LOL

Thanks again!

Eddie Rabbit? this is not a dig, but that's the first mention of a Country artist that I've seen in my month or so around here. Myself, I grew up listening to almost as much Country as Rock & Pop. Still do, to a degree.

That is true, not a lot of talk about the Country of the 80s. There are some fans here, me being one of them. About a month ago we did some talking about the Country of the late 70s and early 80s. Mostly the crossover stuff.

One of my favorite 80s Country music singers is John Conlee. He had some hits in the late 70s and the 80s. I like the 70s hits too.

Hey, I used to really like Conlee. He has one of the more unique voices I've ever heard. You don't have to wonder "who is that?" when you hear one of his songs.

Very true. He still tours a lot around here, I catch him at least once a year. He will be here May 12.
