im doing a research paper on someone who impacted the 1980s, but the only problem is, i cant decide who should be my subject. any suggestions?

Someone a little more fun, would be Madonna. She had a tremendous impact in the 80's by way of self liberation and freedom to express herself as she wished - empowering many females to follow her example even if that wasn't her intention. She set trends in music, fashion, style...
That would be a fun paper to do.

Most definitely, Hairspray! I think a subject such as Madonna or perhaps Michael Jackson would be far more fun to write. Both of these artists had a tremendous impact on the pop culture of the 80s, particularly fashion, music and dance!!!
