Subject: Cereal License Plates

Written By: ILLINI_1 on 4/13/2001 at 10:45 p.m.

Does anyone remember what brand of cereal from the 80's had minature license plates in their boxes? They were like index cards in terms of size and you could use them for bikes. Thanks for any help in advance...

Definitely Post's "Honeycomb" cereal, as both crazydon and MDC indicated. One of my hobbies as an early teen in the late '70s/early '80s was collecting REAL automobile license plates, and one year (around 1982-83) I actually ordered a complete set of the miniature ones from Honeycomb as well. (You had to save up a certain number of box-tops, and then pay for shipping.) Even saved one or two of the Honeycomb cereal boxes, LOL! BTW, those miniature license plates were actually first given away as cereal freebies all the way back in the '50s! (I still have dozens of vintage ones from that era as well - contrary to popular belief, they were NOT just an '80s thing!)

It may have been Honeycomb, but I'm not sure…

You're right, CrazyDon, it was Honeycomb cereal that had the miniature license plates. I still have one that reads "Top Gun" somewhere in my junk pile...
