Subject: Duran Duran

Written By: Lionel on 4/1/2001 at 1:58 a.m.

Hi,

I was just reading about Duran Duran in the "80's Leftovers" newsletter (July 2000) and it inspired me to write a few things about the Fab 5.

First, there's a pretty good website for anyone with a mild to fanatical interest in the band at http://lizardking.simplenet.com/

Also, I know it's pretty belated since Pop Trash was released, but I also was disappointed with the album, although I thought for sure "Somebody Else Not Me" was going to chart pretty well. However, I never even heard it on the radio! To add to my humiliation, my girlfriend is a big Bon Jovi fan and "Pop Trash" and "Crush" were released the same week. We had a bet going that each others' bands would out do the other's and I lost, BIG TIME!

Anyway, if anyone ever wants to talk Duran or 80's in general, drop me an e-mail.

P.S.: The best song on "Pop Trash" is "Playing With Uranium" not "Mars Meets Venus" (sorry Chucky )

You might CHECK. I think Duran Duran is still around and making a comeback. By the way, with the exception of "It's my life" Bon Jovi did not do much better as far as your bet goes. See Ya!

Lizard King used to be better when he did daily updates on the band.. he stopped.. hence my disappointment

I've actually heard on the radio a couple of times.. I always stop whatever I'm doing and shout out "That's Duran Duran" whenever I'm with someone.. I get funny looks doing it though

I liked "Playing With Uranium" quite a bit too.. but I still think "Mars Meets Venus" is a better up-tempo number

What about "Pop Trash"? One of Duran Duran's best songs since "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone" (in my biased, ignorant opinion...). The poster of the original message is right, the album Pop Trash never got airplay - at least here in SoCal (strangely enough, some radio stations were doing contests to win tickets for their tour...).

it was an OK song.. the reviews I read when it came out slammed them for making reference to the Andy Warhol quote ("We'll all be famous for x amount of minutes") like they didn't have the right to quote him.. which upset me, since I happen to know from following the group for 20 years that they not only knew Andy Warhol, but hung around with him in the 80s.. they also played for some of the concerts in his name in the last couple of years..
