Subject: FALCO
I have a question about Falco. Was he in After the Fire? I cant seem to find any information linking them together but they both often get credit for "Der Kommisar". Any help would be appreciated.

No, Falco is an Austrian singer who sang the hits: "Der Kommisar," "Rock Me Amadeus," and "Vienna Calling." After The Fire was a group who did a pretty good English rendition of Falco's "Der Kommisar" (which is in German). I love both songs, but the German one is the version I heard first, so I like that one better. I'd recommend you get his Greatest Hits CD and see what the American audience missed when the radio stations only play the terrible, Americanized, version of "Rock Me Amadeus." By the way, Falco died in an automobile accident a while back.

This message is actually for Tarzan Boy. I read your response and I wanted to thank you for setting me straight. I always thought that Falco was in After The Fire and then went solo with Rock Me Amadeus. I have always prided myself for my knowledge of the 80s and it's nice to know there is someone as well informed as you out there! I agree with you about the other version of Rock Me Amadeus that the radio stations never play...I found that one on Napster. By the way...I love your screen name...that was a great 80s song!!!!

Of course, 'Rock Me Amadeus' is an 80's classic, and I loved it as much as anyone. BUT, am I the only person in the world that loved "Jeanny" by Falco? That whole video in the rubber room was great, and I really loved that song, but no one ever seems to remember it...I mean, obviously it never got as much airplay as 'Rock Me Amadeus' did---but it was a good song too, don't ya'll think? Oh well, maybe it's just me.. :o)

Oh yeah, "Jeanny" - kind of a dramatic song (never seen the video though); not many remember "Vienna Calling" either. I think it's because these songs were in German and the marketing songs in a foreign language to an American audience might be a little tough.
The groups Alphaville and Kraftwerk were two other groups I remember getting a lot of airplay, only to find out that here in the U.S. only a song or two actually made it to the mainstream conscious.
